Plymouth school looking for a quote
Issue: In readiness for April, a Plymouth school called us in
February for a Supply Teacher Insurance quotation and told us they
had a teacher who had been off for two months (in December and
January) with a chronic illness.
Result: Towergate Risk Solutions did not apply any exclusion
to that person and the school accepted cover with us.
Wirral school at renewal time
Issue: This school had a diabetic teacher who had unfortunately
been ill for a period within the past year. A Supply Teacher
Insurance competitor offered the school a premium £2,000 less than
ours.
Result: Upon further inspection of the policy
wording, it was discovered that the competitor would have excluded
this condition. The school renewed with us.
Bradford school looking for a quote
Issue: We received a call from a school which was using an
alternative Supply Teacher Insurance provider. They were aggrieved
because that provider had refused to pay for a period of absence
necessary for a teacher’s mastectomy operation. Their insurers had
stated it was not covered because they considered it to be a
pre-existing illness, even though the breast cancer was first
diagnosed after the school had begun cover.
Result: Had the school been with Towergate Risk
Solutions, the claim would have been paid in full, as we do not
exclude pre-existing illnesses nor chronic illnesses. The school
joined us when their renewal came round.

Kent school
Issue: Several students lost personal belongings when their
hotel rooms were broken into.
Result: They were fully covered by us.
Coventry school
Issue: A pupil was hospitalised with severe food poisoning after
eating shellfish at a New York restaurant.
Result: All paramedic and hospital bills were
covered by us, plus the teacher’s hotel costs.
